ZIKR

by Syed Abdul Hafeez Shah

All the Beautiful Names belong to Allah; Call him through them

(alQuran 7:180)

Verily in the Remembrance of Allah do hearts find Peace

(alQuran 13:28)

A'aoozo billahe min ash-shaitaan ar-rajemm

I seek refuge in Allah from satan, the accursed one

Bismillah ar Rehmaan ar Raheem

(I begin) with the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

From here onwards recite every part at least 10 times

(with increments of 5, time permitting)

Fa in tawallua, fa qul hasbe Allaho, la ilaha illa hoo, alaihe tawakkalto, wa howa Rabbul Arsh el'Azeem (alQuran 9:129)

Now, if they turn away (O Muhammad) say: Allah sufficeth me. There is no God save Him. In Him have I put my trust, and He is Lord of the Tremendous Throne.

Fazkurooni azkurkum, wa-ashkurooli wa la takfaroon

Thus through my Zikr I will remember you; be grateful to me and do not be ungrateful (belittle my bounties)

{Hasbee Rabbi JalAllah} {Maa fee Qalbee Ghair Allah} {Noor-e-Muhammad SalAllah} {La ilaha illa Llah} {La ilaha illa Llah} {La ilaha illa Llah}

{My Rab (Lord, Sustainer), the Majestic Allah is enough for me} {There is none besides Allah in my Heart} {Blessings of Allah be upon the Light of Muhammad} {There is no god save Allah} {There is no god save Allah} {There is no god save Allah}

Laa Maujood illa Llah
No one is present except Allah
Laa Matloob illa Llah
I seek none except Allah
Laa Maqsood illa Llah
There is no objective in my life except Allah (pleasure, closeness etc.)
Laa MashHood illa Llah
All things are manifestations of none other than Allah
Laa Masjood illa Llah
There is none worthy of worship (prostration) except Allah
Laa Ma'abood illa Llah
There is no Lord except Allah
Laa Mehboob illa Llah
There is none worthy of love except Allah

Laa Ilaha illa Llah
There is no god except Allah

Note: This statement has two parts. First you deny the existence of all other gods and then admit the presence of One Allah. First part is called Nafi (denial) and second part is Asbaat (Acceptance)

Illa Llah, illa Llah
Only Allah is the God

(Note: You have reached a stage where there is only acceptance)

Allah Allah

(Note: Now you have reached a state where there is neither denial nor acceptance, only Allah is left)

Allah Hoo, Allah Hoo

(Note: Hoo is used in Arabic when you are pointing towards something. You have reached a stage where you are pointing towards Allah. Impact of Hoo should be on the heart, implying that Allah is not outside somewhere but right in your heart)

From here onwards are the various beautiful names/attributes of Allah
